The Chronic's Review:
This is the first book of Ms. Szarek's that I've read - and that was not a problem. While the second book in a series, the author was able to give enough information about previous events, so I understood the story easily. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed The Fae Ring. It's got action, adventure, a beautiful maiden in distress and a faerie soldier! What more can a girl want?!
Xander was sworn to protect his cousin, Alana, forever. His magic is almost nonexistent in the human world. One afternoon, Xander sees Janet crying and looking out over the cliffs. Janet is jealous of her siblings' relationships with their fae mates and feeling very sad that she is almost to the age where marriage would be a miracle. He feels ‘called’ to her, slips a ring he’s had on her finger, and discovers that she is his ‘fated mate’.
Once realizing that the ring, and their reactions to it, means that she and Xander are now married for all intents and purposes, Janet goes to the “Faerie Ring” - a group of stones believed to hold mystical and magical powers. The ring opens the portal to the Faerie realm and Janet is sucked through. The problem? Humans are not allowed in the realm and the sentence for interlopers is death.Once Xander realized where Janet has most likely gone, he goes through the portal to save her.
